Increasing in volume of lithium-ion cells over their lifetime, known as the ageing effect of this cell type. This phenomenon is known as swelling. Swelling-related disadvantages include shortened lifespan, increased space requirements, excessive pressure on the cell, and the resulting safety issue. The accompanying safety problems are a source of worry for the development of novel battery systems. A comparison of numerous studies demonstrates that if the external pressure is exceedingly high or insufficient, the cell’s lifetime of use is diminished. But if the external pressure is supplied at the appropriate level, the service lifetime increases. Therefore, a trade-off must be established between compact cell placement and acceptable lifespan. The aim of this review is to identify the factors which affect swelling of the cell based on the current literature. Special consideration will be given to the cell material, mechanical stress, the causes, and the physical effects of the swelling. This poster to present an overview of the phenomenon of cell swelling in lithium-ion cells and give a comprehension of the phenomenon.
