In the production of lithium-ion batteries the secondary drying step is hardly investigated and little knowledge about the different secondary drying processes exist. Importantly, it is the last process step before cell assembly and hence can affect the quality of the battery components, e. g. electrodes.
Furthermore, a comprehensive understanding regarding the influences on parameters such as temperature, duration, process design and type are essential for improving the quality of the secondary drying outcome. It is expected that drier electrodes feature improved electrode performance in lithium-ion cells. To gain a better insight, an extensive set of experiments have been carried out in a vacuum oven and an infrared roll-to-roll dryer. It has been shown that all investigated parameters play a relevant role for the drying quality.
