The trend towards shorter development times for vehicles and components necessitates new approaches in design and production. Traditionally, products were designed on drawing boards and later in CAD software, then tested through prototypes.
However, advancements in computing power allow for fewer prototypes through simulations.
Another approach is integrating computer support and AI from the outset, known as generative design. BorgWarner aims to use innovative methods to create sustainable products, reducing CO2 footprint and material usage.
A case study on a battery housing and bracket demonstrates significant material savings – up to 17 % – without compromising strength or safety.

MOTIVATION: Reduction of the CO2 footprint, weight savings, less material, energy savings, low-cost-manufacturing
